Because no one in Gunnison County should have to fight cancer alone.

We grew up in Crested Butte and this year we will be racing in the Grand Traverse with the goal of raising $15,000 for Living Journeys. The Grand Traverse is a point-to-point ski race from Crested Butte to Aspen. Racers travel 40 miles across the Elk Mountain range, climbing over 7,000 vertical feet. To ensure competitor safety, racers must have a partner, carry mandatory gear, and begin the race at midnight when avalanche hazard is decreased. Last year, we placed 5th and had so much fun! This year, our goal is to raise awareness and money to a growing need in the Gunnison Valley. We are embarking on this journey to support Living Journeys because no one should have to fight cancer alone.

Living Journeys provides financial grants, emotional support, and enrichment programs to Gunnison Country residents affected by cancer. Living Journeys is an extremely unique cancer support organization that emphasizes a sense of community that is so close to our hearts. In 2019 Living Journeys has provided support by:

• Over $55,000 has been granted directly to patients and their families to help with medical and living expenses.
• Over 150 private therapy sessions have been provided to patients, their families, and their caregivers.
• Hundreds of clients and caregivers have been supported in 44 group therapy sessions.
• 12,500 miles of transportation has been provided, helping clients get to and from appointments.

In 2020, Living Journey’s goal is that all the individuals and families in the Gunnison County that are affected with cancer will have a strong emotional support system, will get financial help with medical bill and living expenses, and transportation will be provided when needed to get to and from appointment.
